Activities

Athletics and activity involvement have a significant influence on American culture and society.  We believe that participation in interscholastic activities is a valuable experience, which all students should have an opportunity to pursue.  The goals and objectives of school activities will support the vision, mission, philosophy and general programs of Penn Christian Academy and will contribute to the academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of the students who participate.  The activities will have a variety of opportunities available to students so that each student in the school will be able to discern their area of giftedness and will be able to develop that gift toward the pursuit of excellence.  The activities program should enhance the development of character and spiritual vitality and should recognize the unique nature of each child enrolled at Penn Christian Academy.

Athletics

Athletic activities will support the overall vision, mission, and philosophy of Penn Christian Academy.  Athletic programs will support the schools health and physical fitness programs and will align with those objectives.  Competition in athletic programs will be understood as a mutual quest for excellence in the intelligent and directed use of athletic skills in the face of challenge.  Students will have such beneficial consequences as expressing important values and reinforcing the development of desirable character traits.  The following activities qualify as an athletic program:  basketball, soccer, and flag football.  Additional athletic activities may be added as student population demands.  Students will be recognized for their participation.

Library Club

The Library Club will support the overall vision, mission, and philosophy of Penn Christian Academy.  The Library Club will be an opportunity for third through sixth graders. This club will be established as a service club where members can serve their school while learning critical library skills and the inner workings of the Library.  Members will help the librarian in a variety of ways – stamp books, dust library, straighten books on shelves, check books in, put up bulletin boards, decorate library, help with Book Fair preparation, book talks, contests, read and discuss books.  Students will be recognized for their service at the Awards Assembly.

Chess Club

Chess Club will support the overall vision, mission, and philosophy of Penn Christian Academy.  Chess Club will provide a forum for students to be intellectually challenged with logic, reasoning, and strategic thinking skills.  Members will learn the rules of the game and will practice their skills for participation in the annual ACSI regional competition.  Competition in this context will be understood as an individual quest for excellence in the intelligent execution of strategy.  Students will be recognized for their participation.

Sign Language Club

Sign Language Club will support the overall vision, mission, and philosophy of Penn Christian Academy.  The Sign Language Club will exist to promote an awareness and respect for those with disabilities.  Members will learn the mechanics of American Sign Language.  They will also learn valuable lessons about how to communicate with the Deaf and will learn about the Deaf culture.  Most importantly members will learn how to praise the Lord with the use of signs and Christian music.  Their accomplishments will be recognized in performances at various events throughout the school year. Students will be recognized for their participation.

Choir

The Choir will support the overall vision, mission, and philosophy of Penn Christian Academy.  Choir participation will enhance and reinforce the goals of the music program.  Students involved in the choir will have a greater appreciation for the arts and culture and they will learn the technical aspects of singing together as a group.  Members will learn to follow and listen to music as they begin to discern and sing parts to create harmony.  The choir will seek out opportunities for performance in the community as well as within school events.  Students will be recognized for their participation.
