About Us

Penn Christian Academy was founded in 1987 as a Preschool located in North Main Street Church of God in Butler, PA.  Due to the success of the preschool program, the Preschool grew into the North Main Christian School in 1994.  The school grew one grade level at a time until it reached sixth grade and outgrew the church facility.  The school engaged in a successful capital campaign and in the spring of 2002, purchased a vacant public school building.  The school's name was changed to Penn Christian Academy to reflect its new location in Penn Township and its stand-alone location apart from the church (though it continues to be a ministry of North Main Street Church of God).  Significant improvements were made to the newly purchased school building and classes opened on the new campus in the fall of 2002.

The school is governed by a Board of Directors with a maximum membership of ten.  A harmonious relationship exists between the head of school and the Board.  The Board utilizes a "policy governance" approach that permits the head of school to operate the school on a day-to-day basis with the Board addressing the larger issues such as financial review, strategic planning and policy writing.

Mrs. Cindy Dodds was hired as the Administrator of the school approximately six years ago and she began to develop a compelling vision and mission.  Under Mrs. Dodds' leadership, Penn Christian Academy wrote an ambitious Strategic Plan spanning the time frame of 2004 through 2009, touching on a wide variety of areas such as facilities, technology and instructional programs.

Penn Christian Academy is a leader in providing quality Christian education for families in the North Pittsburgh and Butler County area.  Our vision at Penn Christian Academy is to develop young leaders and scholars who think and act from a Christian worldview.  By experiencing their God-given potential in a stellar academic program, Penn Christian Academy students learn and apply Biblical values and truths that will help them become the leaders of tomorrow.

Leadership PDF Print E-mail

leadership“The key to transforming yourself from someone who understands leadership to a person who successfully leads in the real world is character. Your character qualities activate and empower your leadership ability – or it stands in the way of your success!” ~John Maxwell

From the beginning of their school journey, students learn and develop the character qualities necessary to become successful leaders.

As these qualities are nurtured and developed, students are given many opportunities to show their leadership through influencing others. Penn Christian Academy has an active and engaged Student Council which impacts the school culture in a positive way.

In Sixth Grade, students have a Leadership Capstone Course which gives them the opportunity to reflect on their leadership strengths and weaknesses. They examine their own experiences and talents as they relate to leadership and to God’s plan for their lives.

Students leave the program with a strong belief in their ability to influence their world for good.
