Social Studies
“Those who do not learn from history’s mistakes are bound to repeat them.”
History is the story of God’s redemptive plan being worked out through the course of human history. It is an essential aspect of learning in order to produce “an active and godly citizenry.” ~Thomas Jefferson
At Penn Christian Academy, we understand that teaching and learning are more powerful when they are meaningful, integrated, challenging, virtuous and active. Our social
studies programming, therefore, reflects an age appropriate, developmental element that seeks to integrate currently valid knowledge (biblical and extra-biblical) that is representative of human experience and culture. Utilizing a broad range of learning resources from all academic disciplines, we seek to provide students with challenging content, activities and assessment where they are directly engaged in the learning process. Students may quilt, participate in an archaeological dig, research and become explorers, participate in a wax museum, take virtual or actual field trips, listen to story tellers and historians and read primary documents that provide them with insight into the lives of those who have gone before. Because of this unique approach, a wide variety of resources are used inlcuding primary documents, textbooks, historical novels, field trips and guest speakers.
