Science
Kids are naturally curious creatures, and at Penn Christian Academy, we want to capitalize on that natural curiosity and use it to help students maximize their learning
potential in science. During the 1990′s there was a “craze” for hands-on learning which sent educators running to find ways to make science more meaningful to students by providing hands-on learning opportunities. PCA understands that learning must have both a hands-on component as well as a content and information piece. Students have the opportunity for hands-on, experimental learning in the science lab twice each week which is then reinforced by regular classroom learning. We find this formula increases their learning capability and encourages the development of essential process skills that they use across the entire curriculum. Our Science Specialist works hand-in-hand with the classroom teachers to assist students in building powerful connections between their classroom work and their lab experience. The Delta Science Education Company is one of the resources used in completing our science lab approach. Classroom teachers have supplemental materials that are specific to the content they teach. These materials are chosen from various companies (Discovery Channel, Delta, AIMS, Gareth Stevens) for their accuracy, subject depth and appropriateness.
